The Israel swimming team is now in the country and held their first training yesterday at the New Clark City Aquatic Center in Capas Tarlac.
Philippine Swimming Inc. (PSI) President Lailani Velasco in her memorandum for PSI coaches, formally announced that the Israel Swimming Association sent its Olympic delegation to the Philippines for a training camp in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics.
It was earlier approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) when PSI request to host the Israeli National Swimming Team.
In a virtual press conference, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Israeli swimmers would undergo training in Tarlac from July 8 to 21 under a “sports bubble format.”
Israeli swimmers, Roque said, must also comply with strict health and safety protocols amid the prevailing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
Expected to supervise the training is Luka Gabrillo together with 9-time NCAA National Coach of the Year, 13 Time SEC Coach of the Year, and countless times as a USA National Team Coach, David Marsh.
The Philippines will be represented by swimmers Luke Gebbie and Remedy Rule. They were nominated to swim at the Games based on the universality rule which allows 1 swimmer per gender per nation to swim at the Games if they have achieved a FINA B standard.
